Many studies both academic and policy-based deal with issues of water security of domestic and international water among sectors and regions. Water conflicts arise over water security among groups of users in the same village, between villages that share an aquifer or a reservoir, between farmers and urban centers, between environmentalists and farmers that use the same river, and of course between states or countries that are riparians to an international river.

The studies that have been published utilized many approaches and come from different disciplines such as: hydrology, political science, international relations, economics, geography, legal, engineering, and others.

We know that there is no one discipline that can provide solutions to water security. Solutions have to be interdisciplinary in nature.

The purpose of the international conference "Water Security Conflict and Cooperation" (tentative title) is to bring several disciplines to the same room and hear what each has to say on such issues.

It is expected that such meeting will lead to collaboration between several people from different disciplines.

Any interested party in co-organizing and co-sponsoring such international conference please contact Ariel Dinar at adinar[at]ucr.edu
